Is there a way to make a scrollable button list? I have more than 20 images, and the button list goes off screen.

hi 2m3,
I just loved your Photo Gallery, and I decided to use it to build a photo gallery of my daughter and I surfing.
I want to display 22 photos, and everything works fine, except when I load the very first photo (when loading the page).
That very first time the page is loaded the numbers get lost down the screen because there hasn't been a photo loaded yet.
Check out here: ttalbot.com/family/surfwdaddy/surfwdad.h tml
What I tried doing is setting up a preloader, that would preload the first photo, and try to load it from within the swf file, rather than from the XML path.
I know that the command that calls the first photo is "myImageLoader.loadClip(myList.attribute s.path+myList.childNodes[0].attributes.p ath, workImage.myImage);" and have tried several options to try to load it from within the swf file but haven't found a way....
Do you think you could help me solve this challenge? It's all that is missing for me to complete the website...
Thank you very much.
Tereba

files don't work ... the pictures don't load, can you help me, please?!

user deleted_4614
deleted_4614 16 years ago

You could have it load in a second variable in the xml that would be the link you're speaking of. For example you could have a line item that looks something like this:

<item path="01.jpg" url="http://www.yourlink.com" />

Then you'd just have to write some script that would capture this link and send you there on click. Or if you'll have a mix of links and photos you could write an "if" statement to figure out which are links and which are images. Does that help?

Trying to figure out how to get your gallery to auto-play with a timer. Any suggestions? I'm not very deft with AS, so I keep messing it up. It's a very nicely done file!

I think Adobe should change the info inside that flash error...
When you get "unexpected file format" it means your flash program is older than the flash program used to create the file, if you use latest version (Flash CS or "Flash 9") then you should be able to open all files properly.

Hi,
What font did you use in your FLA? Whenever I open it, it makes me choose a new one and then the functionality no longer works for some reason...Thanks!

user deleted_4614

Thanks.

Basically when I had captions the XML looked something like this...

< item path="01.jpg" caption="My Caption" />

Then I just manipulated the caption using childNodes[i].attributes. I believe the Flash Help will explain how to use attributes.

2M3 - Hello. Sorry to bother you again ! Well done on your site,( sjrgardendesign.com ) its very nice indeed !

But regarding comments/captions for each image, is there a quick way to describe how this is done? Im a novice (incase you cant tell!)

Can you add code to the xml file eg

<image>1.jpg</image>
<caption>Nice Photo</caption>

would this work? Im thinking you have to edit the fla ??

user adrianTNT
adrianTNT (admin) 17 years ago

2m3, I moved the images inside the listing files on this server (I hope that's ok with you), it works ok now.

user deleted_4614
deleted_4614 17 years ago

Sorry all, for the slow response to all your questions. Let's see....

I'd like to start off by saying this is a very simplistic dynamic gallery, and should probably be customized to fit your needs. That said, let's answer some questions/concerns.

1. First off I'd like to address the image issue for when you view and image and then go back to view it again and it's not there. That's something to do with FFiles.com, and I haven't looked into why that is. Trust me, the files work fine once they are on your server.

2. The way I have it set up you must have a folder where all your images are stored. This is located in the gallery.xml file (for example <images path="http://www.yourdomain.com/images_f older">).

3. Captions use to be a part of this gallery when I first made it. But I decided to take it out when I actually implemented some of this code into sjrgardendesign.com. I never put it back in, but I can assure you it's possible ;)

user simeylad

Hi 2M3,

I used this gallery before, its great. IS there a way to have captions(text) for each picture ? If not, do you know of a gallery, ideally xml, that accomodates captions ? Thanks

Hello i'm beginner in Flash and html,
how can I upload my photo,
Do I have to create some folder of images
and I have to change some direction in xml file
Could you help me.

by the way it is nice and simple gallery
I like it

user deleted_4614
deleted_4614 17 years ago

Yeah, this photo gallery determines the size of the image at 100% and then displays it that way. If your images are too big then you might want to scale them down a bit.

user simeylad
simeylad 17 years ago

Hi - one other question - the images i have are approx 386x586 and 586x386 in size - they dont scale well in the viewer, do you think i should reduce them ?

user simeylad
simeylad 17 years ago

2m3, Yes, i understnad what you mean. I think with my pics, i shoul donly have a few running off past the image, which does not sound to bad. Time will tell ! Cheers

user deleted_4614
deleted_4614 17 years ago

There really isn't a limit, however if you had more pictures than you could fit as numbers down the side of one of them...it might look a little goofy with the number running off the bottom right corner. You follow? For instance, if you had a picture that was 100px tall, and you had 30 pictures, on that one image you'll see numbers 1-5 along side and the rest of the numbers running off past the image.

user simeylad
simeylad 17 years ago

Is there a limit to how many pics you can have on this ? I have 20 pics to put in a gallery - just wondering how this gallery will accomodate that many. Thanks
